What is Commissioned Art?

Commissioning art is the process of hiring an artist to create a custom artwork. It’s a beautiful way to be a co-creator and own a very special original piece of art that feels personal to you.

The art will be created to fit in your interior design, choosing the color pallet  that complements your home. You can get involved in the process adding elements that you find inspiring, like interesting textures, metallic elements or certain shapes.

Commissioned portraits are created from any quality image of any size and can be made large. My style of painting is impressionistic and with a background of psychology and many years of work in fashion industry I take pride in creating emotionally captivating portraits that reflect more than just physical features of a person.

How does commissioning art work?

After discussing the project, agreeing on the timeline and price, a contract is written. Describing everything we had agreed on : the size, colors, materials, subject matter, and other details of the composition.

50% of the payment is usually given to the artist upfront to purchase the materials, and the rest when the artwork is finished. The price of commissioned art is based on the size and style of work. For general reference see the market value of similar artworks by the artist.

Copyright laws and investment

When you purchase the painting the artists will still retain legal rights to the image as per copyright laws. The artists might include a photo of the artwork in their portfolio or website. If there’s a reason why you don’t want that image to be displayed ( for example a portrait of your loved one) this should be stated in the contract.

Every artwork will come with a certificate of authenticity. It shows the integrity of the artist and means you’re making a legitimate investment valued in any auction gallery setting.
